Residential
To residential customers, we offer a complete tank inspection and / or replacement service for which we would give a fixed quote following our initial survey.
We carry out free tank risk assessments and health checks for residential customers in the Lancashire and Merseyside areas. These advise the condition of the tank as well as any environmental and fire hazards.
Our tank replacement service includes removal & disposal of your old tank and any surplus brick work etc, installation of a suitable new base for your chosen tank, siting the new tank, transferring the fuel to the new one, and connecting up & testing the fuel supply. We would also remove any water from your fuel which will have accumulated over a period of time, thus providing a clean fuel supply for your new installation. We are happy to provide all of the above, or as much or little as you prefer, so if you want to save money and install your own base, we are happy to let you do this.
All of our work is carried out in accordance with the Oftec and Environment Agency guidelines, briefly detailed below, or you can see more information on our Regulations page.

Siting your tank
Tanks should therefore be sited 1.8 metre (6ft) away from :- Non-fire rated eaves of a building, non-fire rated building or structure (eg garden shed), appliance flue terminals, and openings such as doors or windows, in a fire rated building or structure (eg brick built house / garage).
Tanks should also be sited 760 mm away from a non-fire rated boundary such as a wooden boundary fence or hedge.
If it is impossible to comply with these requirements, then a fire rated barrier should be provided, extending 300 mm higher and wider than both ends of the tank.
Tank bases and heights
All plastic tank bases must be of solid construction, ideally made of concrete, lintels or paving flags, which should extend 300 mm beyond all sides of the tank, and provide 100% support to the tank base. Metal tanks should be raised off the ground by a purpose built stand or on block piers with a damp proof membrane on top, and these built on a solid base.
Oil fired appliances with pressure jet burners which incorporate oil pumps do not require the tank to be located higher than the appliance, and therefore can be sited on a suitable ground level base.
Oil storage tanks (gravity feed) serving appliances incorporating vaporising burners (without oil pumps) need to be raised so that they maintain a sufficient static head of oil as specified by the appliance manufacturer.
Internal oil storage
In some situations, oil storage tanks can be sited inside a building, but they must be self contained within a fire resistant chamber.
More detailed advice on the siting of tanks can be provided upon request, or visit our Regulations page for more information, and links to other useful websites.
Quite often, a few simple modifications and good housekeeping practice can make all the difference between having a first class installation that makes a good first impression, to a poor installation with perhaps a worn hose or damaged valve, just waiting to split and discharge the contents onto your property and beyond.
With over 20 years experience of filling tanks and over 10 years experience of installing tanks, we know exactly what to recommend for a good, reliable, safe installation.
